Using Odoo to Manage Manufacturing Orders

Manufacturing order is referred to as MO. Manufacturing order may be described as a concept that is commonly used when producing one or more goods. There are two forms of manufacturing orders: scheduled and issued orders. For any product for which we have already set basic details, we may generate a manufacturing order.

A manufacturing order may also be described as an order that is required to begin the manufacturing process. Internal orders and subcontract orders are two examples of manufacturing orders.

In this blog, we'll look at how to use Odoo 14 to build and handle production orders.

Since producing a bill of material for a product, we produce a production order for that product in the manufacturing sector. Bills of material, as you might know, assist us in calculating the amount of raw materials available for various goods.

Let us first have a glimpse of the bill of materials.

Bill of Material, or BoM, is a paper used by the manufacturing industry to report the amount of raw materials used in the manufacture of a unit of a certain commodity. A bill of material is mostly used to keep track of the amount of items sold and the price of the finished product.

It is based on this bill of material that we create and manage manufacturing order.

Importance of a manufacturing order

Both manufacturing-related activities in a sector are supported by manufacturing orders, as we can see. In addition to production orders, every industry has a variety of other types of orders. We must obtain a buyer's sales order, complete the sales process, and create a purchase order in order to purchase a product or material from a retailer.

Let us shift our focus to manufacturing order management

We will be able to produce our goods in a variety of ways thanks to the Odoo manufacturing module. Let's look at the two methods for producing with this module.

1.Odoo makes it easy for us to create a production order by guiding us through a few basic steps. We can easily complete the output if we adopt this process.

2.If you choose the second option, we will handle the output by work order specialization. This is accomplished by the use of a routing system and the management of the work center.

How to manage manufacturing in a single step

Managing production orders entails overseeing the whole operation without regard for routing. If we use this approach, we can build a manufacturing order in just one phase, and we won't need to use routing to finish the job. When is it appropriate to use a single-step manufacturing method? This is especially useful for small-scale manufacturing units and other manufacturing units that complete tasks with just one work center. Or, to put it another way, this can be used if the operation is limited to a single move.

Odoo comes with a range of default settings. We can handle manufacturing processes without routing using either of these configurations.

Create a manufacturing order avoiding routing

This is a convenient method for creating a production order without having to go through the routing process. Let's see what we can do.

For this let us take the route Manufacturing> Operations> Manufacturing Order

Is it possible to locate all of the current MOs here? Yeah, we will use this as a chance to develop a new MO.

Many fields can be found here; let us consider the value of these fields and the knowledge we must provide. The product name can be entered in the product section. With the aid of the drop-down menu, we can choose our items.

We may also find Quantity to Produce, which helps us to choose the number of units of the commodity we want to generate.

We can pick the BoM (Bill of Material) from here since we've already produced it. We will make a new BOM from here if we haven't already done so.

Naturally, we'll need to set a deadline for finishing the production process. The choice for a scheduled Date allows one to do the task.

The term "responsible" refers to the individuals who will be in charge of the MO.

We will pick the relation of the text that was used to generate the order request when we add a source.

We can now use the CONFIRM button since we have completed the mission.

Let's take a look at the tabs mentioned below.

Components Tab: This allows us to include the commodity, UoM, as well as the goods to consume.

The by-products column, on the other hand, would enable you to enter the amount of by-products generated during the manufacturing process.

The Work Order tab provides us with all pertinent details about the job center, work process, and start date. It also allows one to have the anticipated end date. Furthermore, we are informed of the actual time spent and the status of the order.

Miscellaneous Tab gives users the ability to add information about the method of process, part position, and finished product location.

With the assistance of the Confirm button, we can now confirm the order.

How to manage manufacturing by including routings and work centers?

We will now look at the second process for creating manufacturing orders in Odoo. We'll see how to produce MO if the manufacturing phase is completed with the aid of multiple work centers in this section. This is more useful when dealing with complex industrial systems. This is a more sophisticated approach since it allows one to build MO for any activity that is difficult. This multi-step procedure would assist us in configuring the procedure by allowing us to manage work centers and routes. It also enlists the assistance of work orders.

How to do this? Let us go to Manufacturing -> Configuration -> Settings. Here we can find Operations Tab. Below this tab we can activate Work Orders.

After activating the option SAVE it

Now we can generate a new MO using a few steps.

Let us return to the Manufacturing order

Select the Create button and fill in all of the necessary information.

We may choose the substance, the amount to be made, the Bill of Materials, and so on. All of this is done in the same way as we do it for MO, with no routing.

Operations, job center, timetable start date, and planned end date can all be added here. We'll also get the real-time period and status. We have the flexibility to install as many operations and work centers as we choose.

We can use the Confirm button to finish the MO formation until you've completed the process.
